Are All Generalizations False?

چکیده
In this paper, I develop a new semantic criterion for evaluating universal quantifi cations based on problems of self-reference, and use it to evaluate theories in Metaphysics, Philosophy of Logic, Philosophy of Language, Cultural Criticism, Philosophy of Mind, Epistemology, Action Th eory, Ethics, and Philosophy of Science, arriving at signifi cant results in each case. Th e criterion is that universally quantifi ed sentences cannot convey any substantive information about the nature of meanings qua meanings, as that would involve them in circularities or something akin to selfcontradictions. I illustrate this point by showing how examples of such sentences are circular or self-undermining. I close with some general considerations of the appeal of such claims.

Ordered Weighted Averaging Operators and their Generalizations with Applications in Decision Making
The definition of ordered weighted averaging (OWA) operators and their applications in decision making are reviewed. Also, some generalizations of OWA operators are studied and then, the notion of 2-symmetric OWA operators is introduced. These generalizations are illustrated by some examples.
متن کاملA new characterization for Meir-Keeler condensing operators and its applications
Darbo's fixed point theorem and its generalizations play a crucial role in the existence of solutions in integral equations. Meir-Keeler condensing operators is a generalization of Darbo's fixed point theorem and most of other generalizations are a special case of this result. In recent years, some authors applied these generalizations to solve several special integral equations and some of the...
متن کاملSome remarks on generalizations of classical prime submodules
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity and $M$ be a unitary $R$-module. Suppose that $phi:S(M)rightarrow S(M)cup lbraceemptysetrbrace$ be a function where $S(M)$ is the set of all submodules of $M$. A proper submodule $N$ of $M$ is called an $(n-1, n)$-$phi$-classical prime submodule, if whenever $r_{1},ldots,r_{n-1}in R$ and $min M$ with $r_{1}ldots r_{n-1}min Nsetminusphi(N)$, then $r_{1...
متن کاملWintein On All Strong Kleene Generalizations of Classical Logic
By using the notions of exact truth (‘true and not false’) and exact falsity (‘false and not true’), one can give 16 distinct definitions of classical consequence. This paper studies the class of relations that results from these definitions in settings that are paracomplete, paraconsistent or both and that are governed by the (extended) Strong Kleene schema. Besides familiar logics such as Str...
متن کاملSOME GENERALIZATIONS OF WEAK CONVERGENCE RESULTS ON MULTIPLE CHANNEL QUEUES IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.
This paper extends certain results of Iglehart and Whitt on multiple channel queues to the case where the inter-arrival times and service times are not necessarily identically distributed. It is shown that the weak convergence results in this case are exactly the same as those obtained by Iglehart and Whitt
